Is the library closed on holidays?

Yes. Hempstead County observes New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Presidents’ Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving (and the day after), Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.

Can I leave my child unattended?

Children must be supervised by parent/guardian at all times when visiting the library.

Does the library accept donations?

Due to space limitations, we do not accept donations.

Is the library on social media?

We are. You can find us on Facebook and Instagram.

Computers, Resources & Costs

Do your computers have Microsoft Office?

Our computers are equipped with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Can I download something on the library’s public computers?

No. Our computers prohibit downloading.

How much does it cost to print?

Prints are .25 per black and white page, .50 per color page, .40 for black and white double-sided pages, and .90 for color double sided pages.

How much does it cost to make copies?

Copies are .25 per black and white page, .50 per color page, .40 for black and white double-sided pages, and .90 for color double sided pages.

How much does it cost to fax?

We send faxes but we do not receive them. Faxing is $2 for the first sheet and $1 for each additional sheet.

Does the library have a scanner?

Yes. Scanning to your email or flash drive is free.

Borrowing & Online Catalog FAQs

Can I reserve an item?

Absolutely. You can access our Catalog here. Your Username is your 14 digit library card number. Your Password is the last four digits of your library card number. You have five days to pick up your item(s).

How long can I keep my materials?

New releases, movies, and magazines are available for checkout for seven days. All other materials are eligible for 14 day checkout.

How many items can I borrow?

New patrons can borrow eight items at a time. Individuals who have had an account with us for at least a year can borrow 14 items at a time. DVDs are limited to four per household.

What if I need to keep my materials longer?

You can access your account via our online catalog. Items can be renewed up to four times. If another patron has an item on reserve or overdue fines are owed items cannot be renewed. Your Username is your 14 digit library card number. Your Password is the last four digits of your library card number. You have five days to pick up your item(s).

Can I return my items after hours?

Yes. There is a book return that can be accessed outside the building. It can be found to the left of the front door.

How do I download an eBook?

You can access our eBook site here. You can sign in with your library card number or, if you do not have a library card, you can sign up for an instant digital card using your mobile phone number. In order to obtain an instant digital library card your mobile phone bill must be sent to an address in Hempstead County, Arkansas. You can also download the Libby app to your device to access items.

Can I suggest/request material for the library to purchase?

Absolutely. Give us a call, come by, or fill out our form at the bottom of this page.

What happens if I damage or lose an item?

The library charges full replacement cost on lost materials. The amount owed will be the original cost of the item.

Library Cards

Do I have to visit the library to get a library card?

Typically, yes. However, we have been issuing them with information provided via email or phone during the COVID-19 pandemic. A driver’s license or state issued identification is required to be shown the first time you visit the library.

How old do you have to be to get a library card?

Potential patrons must be at least five years of age. Individuals 17 years of age or younger must have the signature of a parent or legal guardian to obtain a card. All parties must be present at the time of card issuance.

Can I get a library card if I don’t live in Hempstead County?

Absolutely. Borrowers must provide valid state issued identification from their state of residence to obtain a Hempstead County Library card.

Can I use a computer if I don’t have a library card?

Yes. Patrons must provide valid state issued identification from their state of residence to obtain computer privileges.

Fines

How much are overdue fines?

Overdue fines are .50 per day per item.

Can I still check out items if I owe a fine on my account?

No. All fines must be paid in full before any materials may be borrowed or public computers used.
